Peace and Social Justice/Right to Life Ministry
Ministry Coordinator: Kathy Kregor
Assistant Ministry Coordinator: needed
Our Ministry
The Peace and Social Justice/Right to Life Committee provides the parish with educational materials/programs and advocacy opportunities to address issues of peace, human dignity and life. The committee looks for both small and large group opportunities to influence our community positively through justice outreach as a parish, as well as ways to empower individuals to pursue this on their own. By working to change the conditions and attitudes in our society and in our local communities, the lives of the poor, the elderly, and the unborn can be protected and positively influenced.
The committee has played a major role in five major initiatives over the past few years...the STEP Walk to raise funds for Catholic Relief Services 2005/2006, Sleep Out Saturday 2005/2006/2007 to raise money for Bridge Communities, the Feed My Starving Children Project in 2007, the Nationwide Postcard Campaign Opposing the Freedom of Choice Act in 2009, and The Mothers' Day Baby Shower to benefit Woman's Choice Services in 2009 and 2010. With your help we can take on more projects to help our communities near and far.
Currently, the committee members provide information for the CORE website on news and area events related to justice and life issues and coordinate the Mothers Day shower.
Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Statements
"Working as a mentor in our Transitional Housing program, I began to realize some of the obstacles the working poor faced in our community. Even though the young mother I was mentoring had learned to budget, paid off her debts, and gotten a higher paying job, she could not afford to leave our program and pay the rent without some assistance. I realized that the Transitional Housing Program could solve only part of the problem and that the problem that resulted in the young mother becoming homeless also needed to be addressed. Without safe affordable housing for the poor, our clients had nowhere to go and homelessness would continue to be a problem in our community. I got involved in Peace and Social Justice to find out what was being done to make sure there was housing for the poor and what I could do." Kathy Kregor
"I am a Secular Franciscan and as such my Rule of Life mandates that I identify with and provide personal assistance to the poor. With this in mind I have been participating in Peace & Social Justice initiative for awhile now. When I came to this parish I was very impressed by the passion that a relatively small group of parishioners had about those less blessed than we are. Because of the projects I have worked on with our Peace & Justice Group I have a much broader vision of people in need and how just a few people can make a big difference. The efforts of a group of about 15 people caused 700+ volunteers to sign on for the Feed My Starving Children project. Through that effort we provided meals for thousands of children in just one weekend! Just think what would happen if more people cared enough to get personally involved to make a difference? You can volunteer as little or much of you time as you can spare and I guarantee you one thing...once you work on one of these larger projects...you'll never be the same again...and you'll want to keep doing more!"
