Clothing Drive, St. Vincent de Paul

Our Ministry

St. Daniel sponsors twice yearly clothing and related goods drives to donate to St. Vincent de Paul, one of the oldest charitable social and humanitarian organizations known world wide. Our donations go directly to their West Chicago Thrift Shop. We collect thousands of items and the generosity of the parish and its friends continues to be an overwhelming example of our witness to and support of the poor in our community.

St. Vincent de Paul Society was founded in 1833, and currently has almost 900,000 members spread in 130 countries of five continents. The Society's purpose is to provide direct aid to those who suffer, and to help individuals reduce and even eliminate the causes of their suffering, themselves. They provide child care, services for the elderly, social service support, and homeless outreach. "The common denominator of all these initiatives, activities and undertakings is the desire to help the lost and the have-nots through listening, friendship, spiritual, moral and material support; to give them back their dignity, to ensure their personal development, to give them back hope and, if possible, the joy of life."

Twice each year
      once in the spring, previously on May 22 & 23, 2010. View more details.

Volunteer Opportunities

We ask for your help and participation in promoting our bi-annual clothing drives. St. Vincent de Paul needs more than clothes—they need books and other educational materials, toys for children, furniture, CD’s and movies and many other goods that all families count on. By donating to the drives, you are helping tremendously. Our donations go directly to the West Chicago Thrift Shop located at 213 Main St, West Chicago. Volunteer Meetings

There are no specific meetings for this ministry, but volunteers are welcome to attend the monthly CORE meetings for ministry coordinators, ministry volunteers, and interested parishioners on the first Monday evening of each month.  See CORE Meetings.
