Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why not go directly to Bridge Communities or DuPage PADS or People's Resource Center (PRC), etc., to volunteer?
Christian Out Reach Effort, CORE, ministries are easy ways to get involved - the ministries are set, you can volunteer with fellow parishioners/friends, and many ministries don't require the long term commitment. Additionally with CORE, you have a place to suggest and start a ministry that responds to a need you see.
What added value does CORE provide?
The faith element - Our ministries are based on our faith values. Although the agencies mentioned clearly address the same needs, they are secular. The strength of CORE comes from having action based on prayer and scripture.
What is the history of CORE?
Since its inception, St. Daniel the Prophet parish has had a strong commitment to serve those in need in our community. The Christian Out Reach Effort was started within the parish's first year under the direction of Sister Mary Potthast. Working closely with Catholic Charities, the group was involved in the Back to School Fair, home delivered meals, food and clothing drives, Adopt a Family, and PADS. A couple of years later, CORE expanded its ministries to include Transitional Housing for the homeless. Since its beginning CORE worked with community agencies to help meet the needs of the poor, initially providing support to the People's Resource Center and the Interfaith Food Pantry from its funds. As the community needs have changed over the years, some of the CORE ministries and the community agencies it supports have changed in response to the need. However, many of the original ministries remain a part of our CORE ministry and throughout the years, the parish's commitment to those in need in our community has remained strong. An overview of the current ministries and community agencies receiving support can be found in ministry overview.
